YHA Statement – Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

YHA is deeply saddened at the passing of our Monarch and Patron Her Majesty The Queen. The loss is being felt throughout England and Wales by our staff and volunteers. Her Majesty was a true champion of our charity and of youth hostelling in the UK. The interest she took in our work and in the development of young people who stay with us was long-standing and of great benefit. Her Majesty officially opened five youth hostels, most recently our youth hostel in South Downs in 2013, and throughout her reign helped YHA develop with her patronage. Her legacy of involvement in the youth hostelling movement will last forever. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family and we join the national and international mourning at her passing. Margaret Hart, Chair, YHA (England & Wales) James Blake, Chief Executive, YHA (England & Wales)
