Set in 14 acres of beautiful grounds, YHA Chester Trafford Hall is a glorious Grade II listed Georgian house which is the perfect location for your next school trip. Students will be wowed by the grandeur of the mansion with its fantastic modern facilities such as an on-site café, dining room, a fun games room with a pool table and table-top football and spacious shared areas to relax in.
The large grounds are tucked away down a long, gravelled driveway, and even boast an archery range! It’s the best of both worlds, being perfectly located just a few miles outside the city of Chester, giving great access to the Roman city as well as Chester Zoo and the Blue Planet Aquarium but in a rural location surrounded by fields and animals.
Accommodation
With two types of accommodation at YHA Chester Trafford Hall, there’s something to suit everyone. Our eco-friendly chalet accommodation The Segals is located behind the main Georgian house and consists of 42 ensuite rooms that sleep between two and five guests which are all located on the ground floor and powered by renewable energy on-site.
The Stables accommodation is available on YHA Exclusive Hire and is perfect for groups, it offers 11 bedrooms, sleeping 43 guests with its own access so residents can come and go as they please. It’s run completely on carbon-neutral power, harvested using on-site solar panels, has two large conference rooms and a conservatory.
Plus, we have four large meeting rooms/classrooms with flipcharts, LCD screen and projector in the main house, if you should need them.
The residential packages
We offer a range of school residentials from our connecting to nature package where students take part in nature-based activities, to National Curriculum-linked literature residentials with the Alex Rider packages to multi-activity and discovery packages.
For those who are looking for a self-led residential, YHA Chester Trafford Hall is the perfect base. Close-by to the city of Chester, you could take your students to walk the two miles of the wall and admire the beautiful heritage of the city. Or head to Chester Zoo, the most visited zoo in the UK, to see over 35,000 animals and explore 125 acres of zoological gardens. There’s the Blue Planet Aquarium where you can discover an underwater tunnel and see sharks.
Chester also has a vibrant arts culture in its city centre, with the Storyhouse Theatre, Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre and plenty of art galleries. Chester Cathedral is a must-see with its ancient abbey and archaeological treasures, built in 1092 and perfectly blending the city’s medieval and modern.

And finally, the food. Let us recharge you with group catering options, speak to our friendly team who can talk you through our healthy menu options or check online for sample menus. There is a kitchenette in the main house for basic food preparation and washing up if you’d rather prepare your own food. Plus, our on-site cafe provides tea, coffee and cakes throughout the day and has a full menu available in the evening.
