If you fancy getting away from it all this summer but can’t bring yourself to face the hassle of pitching your own tent, then a YHA camping pod might be just the quirky alternative you are looking for.
There is still plenty of time to book an unusual escape away with the family, safe in the knowledge that you don’t have to wrestle your accommodation back into a bag on your day of departure.
What kind of quirky camping accommodation can I book with YHA?
We aim to make hostelling accessible to everyone, everywhere. And many of our hostels offer the opportunity to connect people to each other, to nature and the outdoors, to culture and to heritage.
It therefore makes great sense to be able to offer not just private rooms within one of our many hostels but also a wide range of quirky outdoor accommodation, in our glamping pods.
So, what exactly is on offer when you book a glamping break with YHA?
Camping pods
These wooden structures are insulated, with fixed flooring, glazed doors, and interior lighting. Pods can sleep two to four people and feature futon mattresses, ideal for a perfect night’s sleep. Some have a little decking extension out front, on which you can relax and take in the view.
And if you fancy upgrading, why not book one of our deluxe camping pods? These deluxe camping pods come complete with an enclosed wet room, toilet, and kitchenette, ensuring that you have everything you need right on site.
Bell tents
These bell tents are spacious inside, with a double mattress on a futon like frame plus two single mattresses. Sleeping four to five people, they are ideal for camping with the kids, without having to inflate your own bed.
They even come with wood burners inside to keep you warm and cosy, so you can enjoy an outdoor experience even in the most frigid of temperatures, and don’t worry about little fingers getting burned; they come with a firegurard to keep everyone safe and cosy.
Landpods
Landpods are an unusual combination of a tent and pod, raised well off the ground, with a waterproof canvas covering, a whimsical fairytale door with a raw wooden handle, porthole windows, LED lighting and the option to roll back the coverings to look at the stars if you fancy a turly magical night.
Inside, they offer two separate raised double beds for up to four people, ideal if you like an area to call your own. Choose from two double mattresses and single futon mattress, which doubles up as a seating area.  Outside, there’s a place to hang your boots after a long day of exploring and you can gather on the seating areas around the BBQ fire pit. Just don’t forget the marshmallows.
What are the benefits of booking a YHA camping pod or cabin?
Aside from the attraction of not having to pitch or strike a tent (and worry about how to find the best location), a camping pod offers much more sound proofed camping than a night under canvas. Which means you are much less likely to hear anyone snoring – unless of course, they’re sharing your pod.
Pods, cabins and huts also offer a greater degree of protection from the elements than a tent. So even if it rains all night, there’s no chance of water getting into your belongings as you sleep. Or your pod being washed away in a storm.
Pods are also well insulated from the 3am chill that can wake you up later on in the summer, meaning you’re more likely to get a good night’s sleep, without interruption.
And an uncomfortable night sleeping on the floor, with a stiff back in the morning? Forget it. With a camping pod, you can expect a decent bed with YHA bedding. Which you can climb out of in the morning and leave with us to launder.
What do camping pods come with?
Camping pods are surprisingly spacious inside. And for many, they immediately bring back memories of den making when you were younger – just done better, with a lot more insulation.
Bring your dog glamping
For just £10 per night, you are also more than welcome to bring your dog glamping.
Cheap UK glamping with a luxury touch
One of the advantages of booking a YHA camping pod is its affordability.
For little more than the price of a camping pitch, you can book a whole camping pod, which can sleep up to four people in complete comfort. And on your day of departure, you just need to pack up your own belongings.
Camping pods also mean that you don’t have to bring a tent, a ground sheet, pillows, sleeping bags, or chairs and tables. It’s all there for you when you arrive.
