Romantic getaways: best glamping for couples in the UK

Whether you’re looking for a mini-moon location, somewhere scenic for a short getaway, or a honeymoon retreat, glamping is an ideal option for a romantic break. Switch off from the outside world, spend time together in the great outdoors, and stargaze with a truly unique stay in YHA’s glamping accommodation.

If you fancy something a little bit different, then glamping could be for you. A bit of a step up from camping, the term actually means “glamorous camping” and is the perfect way to spend time with your loved one.

We’ve put together our top picks for couples’ holidays. Read on to find out where to go for a romantic glamping getaway in the UK this year.

Glamping: the perfect romantic getaway

Just picture it: relaxing in a secluded location where you can get back to nature and spend uninterrupted quality time with your significant other. There’s nothing more romantic!

Wake up for the sunrise, fall asleep under the glow of the stars, and enjoy long walks together in the daytime. Choose from quirky Landpods, festival-style tipis, or cosy bell tents for your next big adventure.

Our glamping accommodation offers plenty of features for a really special stay, including integrated wood burners, outdoor firepits, and snuggly seating areas. Enjoy the chance to reconnect and switch off from the distractions of everyday life with your love.

The best romantic retreats for couples in the UK

From the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Dales to beachside breaks in Pembrokeshire, YHA offers glamping retreats in some of the UK’s most scenic spots. Whether you’re after an active break or if you prefer pottering around towns and villages and grabbing a pint together, there’s a glamping location for every couple.

Here are some of our most popular romantic glamping locations across England and Wales. Whether it’s a special occasion or “just because,” these one-of-a-kind places are just waiting for you to make some incredible memories.

Snuggle up at Stratford-upon-Avon

YHA Bell tent interior

YHA Stratford-upon-Avon is home to spacious bell tents for an idealistic escape. Forget bickering as you struggle to put up your tent in the rain. All the hard work has been done for you with the tent, beds, and warm, comfy bedding all included and set up for your arrival.

Inside you’ll find a double bed, comfy bean bags, and an integrated wood burner where you can cosy up together when the temperature starts to dip.

There’s also a fire pit outside the bell tent, and a bag of wood is included with your stay so you can enjoy building a fire with your other half. Tell stories and chat while you warm your hands (and your heart). All you need to bring is the marshmallows to toast!

The hostel is within walking distance of the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, a gorgeous market town with over 800 years of history to discover. Discover the place where Shakespeare was born and marvel at the traditional black-and-white Tudor buildings as you wander around hand in hand.

Seeing a play can be a good idea for a great date night and if you’re lucky, you may be able to catch a performance from the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company during your stay. Just be sure to book one of the romantic comedies rather than a tragedy!

When you return to the hostel after a day of sightseeing, toast to your holiday and health with a tipple at the licensed bar or treat yourselves to a bite to eat as you look out over the hostel’s extensive grounds.

Our sharers are perfect for couples. Choose from nachos, chicken wings, and jalapeño poppers.

Lovers retreats in the Lake District

Tipis, landpods and an airstream in the grounds of YHA Windermere

For a couples retreat with an idyllic setting, you can’t go wrong with YHA Coniston Holly How in the Lake District. Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, it offers incredible views in every direction, and its off-the-beaten-track location makes for a tranquil stay.

At YHA Coniston Holly How you can choose to stay in a Landpod or a tipi. Both of these options are dog-friendly, so if you don’t want to travel without your pup, you can bring them with you.

Our tipis wouldn’t look out of place at Glastonbury, so if you or your beau is a fan of music festivals, then this is the stay for you. There’s none of the hassle of putting up your own tent, and all of the bedding is included, so you can save space in the car, too. Inside, there’s a wood burner to keep you both snug.

This glamping option is perfect for couples who love camping but don’t like roughing it.

The glamp site is close to Coniston Water, one of the well known lakes that the area is famous for. You can take part in various water sports here, including kayaking and paddle boarding, and you can even take a dip in the lake if you fancy it.

For a super romantic option, why not hire a rowing boat? Pack up a picnic and paddle out into the middle of the lake to enjoy it. The surroundings are second to none and this would be the perfect spot for a proposal if you’re planning on popping the question during your break!

If you prefer your adventures on dry land, there are some fantastic walking routes right from the doorstep of YHA Coniston Holly How. If you’re a couple who loves a challenge, then try scaling the heights of the Old Man of Coniston, one of the highest fells in the Lake District National Park.

There’s nothing more dreamy than watching the sun go down over the Lake District fells with your partner as you look forward to more adventures tomorrow. Bring a bottle of bubbly to celebrate your love outside your Landpod or tipi as you take in the sunset.

Spend quality time with your person in Pembrokeshire

Landpods Extended in summer

If you’re looking for romantic glamping in Wales, then YHA has two picture-perfect locations in Pembrokeshire – YHA Manorbier and YHA Broad Haven.

YHA Broad Haven has a stunning location just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Blue Flag beach that gives the hostel its name. On the hostel’s glamp site, you can stay in a Landpod, a delightful combination of glamping pod and tent.

Landpods are perfect for a stay with a difference. There’s nothing else quite like them. If you and your soulmate love the traditional camping experience but want a bit of an upgrade, then a Landpod is for you.

There are two double beds inside, so you can snuggle up to fall asleep…and then kick your partner out if they start snoring! All bedding and extra blankets are included so you can stay super cosy, even when it’s chilly outside.

Maximise your time outside by relaxing around your private firepit. Cuddle up on the bench at the front of the pod and enjoy the glow from the fire for an unforgettable evening.

And the best bit? There’s an insulated canopy roof which you can raise up on those oh so warm days. You can get closer to nature on balmy summer evenings or stargaze together from the comfort of your bed. Start your day watching the sunrise before popping to the on-site café to indulge in our all-you-can-eat breakfast.

There’s plenty to explore nearby, too. That’s if you can bear to leave your Landpod, of course. Stroll hand-in-hand on one of the sweeping golden beaches that Pembrokeshire is known for. There are over 50 to discover, so see how many you can tick off during your holiday.

Enchanting breaks in Yorkshire

Camping pods at YHA Grinton Lodge

If you’re looking for a romantic glamping break in the countryside, then look no further than the green hills of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. YHA Grinton Lodge is an ideal location for peace and tranquillity.

At YHA Grinton Lodge, you can choose from several glamping options, including Landpods and camping pods. Glamping guests have access to all of the hostel facilities, including toilets, showers, and social areas.

You’re welcome to use the self-catering kitchen to cook a delicious dinner for two. If you don’t want to cook (you are on holiday after all!) then you can eat at YHA Grinton Lodge’s restaurant and treat yourself to a drink at the licensed bar.

Take in the exceptional views over the surroundings and take a romantic stroll into the picturesque, chocolate-box village of Grinton, just 10 minutes away. On the banks of the River Swale, Grinton has a church dating back to the Middle Ages, a grade II listed manor house, and a cosy pub where you’re always made to feel welcome, even with muddy walking boots!

For a romantic evening activity, just look to the skies. The Yorkshire Dales was designated as a Dark Sky Reserve in 2020. Away from the light pollution of towns and cities, YHA Grinton Lodge is in the heart of the Dark Sky Reserve, so on a clear night sit together on the bench outside of your Landpod and see how many constellations you can spot.

Ask at the hostel reception for more information and to hire one of our Dark Skies boxes. The kit includes a night sky guide, monoculars, and red light torches.
