As we arrived at YHA Boggle Hole we had to park up the car and walk down a pretty path. We wondered how long our walk might be but it was literally a few minutes later and we were treated to the most spectacular view of the little cove where the youth hostel is based.
We headed into the main building and were checked in by a super friendly staff member. This is when we were told we were to be staying in the Crows Nest.
We found The Crows Nest was up a number of steps, but they were worth the climb for the stunning views of the sea and jagged rocks of the cove. We were assigned room 11 – a four-bedded private room with nearby access to four showers and four toilets – they were literally round the corner to our room. The very best part though was that I had a view of the sea from my bed! It was bliss walking up to the breath-taking views in the morning.
We had a day trip into the beautiful town of Whitby where we admired spectacular views of the famous Abbey and ate the most delicious fish and chips on the sea front while looking out at the lighthouse and the horizon.
The next morning, we had a full English breakfast at the youth hostel, and it was so yummy. I had bacon, fried egg, sausages grilled tomatoes and best of all hash browns. All washed down with an ice-cold glass of orange juice. My mum said the coffee was good. I noticed there was lots of fruit, cereal, yoghurt and pastries available too, so I grabbed a banana and a chocolate croissant for later!
Feeling nice and full we then headed out for a walk to Robin Hood’s Bay. We took the route along the cliff top and wow, the views up there were out of this world stunning. Robin Hood’s Bay is a pretty, tiny seaside village with a gorgeous pub overlooking the bay. We went hunting for fossils on the beach, visited the visitor centre and the dinosaur museum. We also browsed around some of the village shops, grabbing a drink at a little cafe overlooking the sea.
We returned to the hostel to a very welcome roaring fire in the main bar area so decided to order our evening meal. I opted for the chilli cheesy nachos which came with a very tasty guacamole and sour cream sauce. It was so delicious. My dad and brother opted for a very nice looking curry with rice and my mum had a huge pepperoni pizza which she devoured. I definitely recommend the food.
We then settled into a game of scrabble by the fire. I slept so well in my bunk bed and was awoken each morning to the sound of the waves. Perfect. I loved my stay at YHA Boggle Hole and hope to visit again soon.
