All you need to know about the UK’s fastest-growing women-only outdoor adventure community.
What is Outdoor Adventure Girls?
Outdoor Adventure Girls was founded in 2021 by Sophie Davis, a travel writer and influencer. In Sophie’s words, “the group aims to give women the confidence to get outdoors, connect with other women and push themselves outside of their comfort zone”. Its mission is to create a safe and inclusive environment for women and to challenge the lack of representation of women in the outdoor space.
Sophie set up the group after being sexually assaulted in her early 20s and spending years feeling isolated, scared and alone. She wanted to empower women to have confidence and tap into the resources and support to get outside. Sophie has also worked with the Ministry of Justice’s government campaign, It Still Matters. The campaign urges victims of sexual violence to seek support, no matter when it happened.
2 years later, OAG has over 50,000+ incredible women in their main Facebook group and 13 regional groups, moderated by 20 regional moderators, across the country. Their mission through these groups is to create spaces for the OAG community to meet other like-minded women in their local area. The organisation now employs an all-female team of event hosts and moderators located across the UK.
In addition to this, they also host monthly UK-based weekend trips, from Scotland to the Lake District, and Snowdonia to the New Forest. These events include hiking, paddleboarding, yoga, mindfulness, kayaking, wild swimming, and more. It’s enough to make your head spin!
Then in 2023, OAG began hosting international trips to Bali, France, Iceland, and Morocco, with plans to offer even more overseas adventures in the future.
The OAG team also have a helpful guide for you to look over when choosing an adventure:
Essentials
Our Essentials trips are low-cost and no frills. They are designed for travellers of any age on a budget. By keeping our essentials trips costs low, we aim to be as accessible to as many women as possible. Accommodation options will include hostels, guesthouses or camping (e.g. YHA, basic hostels, campsites), car-sharing to and from activities and wholesome home-cooked food.
On our overseas trips this may include staying with locals, eating at local markets and with less itinerary activities included. Our host will advise of other activities that can be added to your experience during your trip, which allows you to choose how you spend your money whilst abroad.
Comfort
Our Comfort trips are our essentials range but with extras included! They’re the perfect mix of affordability and adventure, mixing higher-ranked accommodation options, with included activities and occasional meals out at restaurants. Accommodation options include premium hostels, hotels or local b&b’s.
On our overseas trips, our Comfort rating combines additional inclusions and higher standard accommodation options. Transport will often be included and more unique activities will be offered.
Premium
Our Premium trips are a new addition in 2025 and have been included following guest feedback requests for more luxurious accommodation, trips with more inclusions and the benefit of everything being planned for you.
A lot of our Premium trips have handpicked accommodation (often stunning hotels, beautiful Airbnbs, or unique stays), once-in-a-lifetime included experiences, plus a few surprises for you along the way!
Our Premium trips are the next level for you to simply turn up and enjoy. In 2025, we will be launching both UK and overseas Premium trips.
How can I get involved?
The community now has 12 regional groups, collectively covering the entire country, where members can meet women local to themselves, host their own meet-ups and also join pre-organised trips through Outdoor Adventure Girls HQ. Outdoor Adventure Girls UK weekends are designed to give you the time to reconnect with yourself, get outdoors in nature and connect with other women. OAG host weekends all over the UK throughout the year and they have lots planned throughout the rest of the year.
The organisation has a selection of paid-for weekend breaks, training days and overseas trips, designed to allow women to reconnect with nature and make new friends. In 2023 alone they’ve hosted 11 UK-based weekend trips, and four international trips to Bali, France, Iceland and Morocco. There are many ways to get involved with the group and you can find more details on their website.
