We’ve all made amazing memories on a school trip – and they’re a fantastic way for kids to get to know their classmates outside of lessons. Whether it’s gathering round a fire to hear a spooky story or getting muddy on a fun outdoor activity; YHA School Trips are sure to get kids bonding.
Not only do we offer some of England and Wales’ most breathtaking locations, but they’re packed with team-building experiences. Students may find talents they never knew they had (great for blossoming self-esteem) and discover new hobbies they’ll enjoy for life. With so many healthy and educational activities to try, you’ll find it hard to choose just one location.
Making new friends with adventure
Being active isn’t just about being the best at P.E. and our activities help to ensure all pupils have lots of fun. Our Action Adventure package packages get kids working together in the great outdoors and building social skills that will last a lifetime. Activities like raft building and orienteering are healthy team-building exercises and encourage pupils to talk to each other and solve problems. Students can’t help but feel inspired to make friends in our breathtaking landscapes too.
Kids may find that they’re amazing at archery or bush-craft survival skills, earning them an ego boost as the Robin Hood or Ray Mears of the class! Or if you really want to hang loose, YHA Treyarnon Bay has a laid back beach location and a fab watersports package – perfect for making some cool surfing buddies.
Our new Alex Rider Classified Mission ignites students’ imagination, letting them play at being secret agents for their trip. You’ll see their personalities shine through as they crack codes, design gadgets and hunt for clues with the Exploration Society. They can help each other be brave during adrenaline-fuelled spy activities like abseiling, rock climbing and gorge scrambling too.
Making new friends with education
Let’s be honest – the average classroom is not as inspiring as the biomes of the Eden Project, the crazy rock formations of the Jurassic Coast or the birthplace of Shakespeare. Field trips give pupils a chance to really engage with their learning and discover hidden strengths. They’ll feel more confident with their subjects and make fantastic memories with classmates too.
The field study hide, nature trail and story circle at YHA Eskdale make it a hidden gem for educational visits – animal-lovers will find loads to talk about. Budding celebrities will also feel in their element at YHA Stratford-upon-Avon; treading the boards on its Performing Arts package. You might find the most unlikely students coming out of their shell when faced with a new situation.
Making new friends at playtime
A school residential could be a child’s first time sleeping in a bunk bed, sharing a yummy feast , or waking up to a view of the countryside. As well as having a trip filled with new experiences, pupils get lots of time to relax, have fun and hang out together. From ditching their uniform to having a laugh over a board game, there’s plenty to make them forget there might be no phone signal! With retro games and pool tables in our games rooms (plus free Wi-Fi to boot) we’re a teenage dream.
Why not gather around the medieval banquet table for storytelling at YHA St Briavels Castle, or put on your best eyepatch for a pirate party at YHA Boggle Hole? Many of our hostels are near famous attractions too, so students can spend a day at Alton Towers or pop over to Brighton pier. Whatever trip you choose, pupils are sure to get plenty of opportunities to get to know their classmates.
