The best glamping sites with woodburning stoves in the UK

Glamping means “glamorous camping” and refers to a more luxury camping experience with some added extras thrown in. And what’s a better home comfort than a welcome bit of warmth? Especially with the increasingly unpredictable UK weather!

Many of our glamping accommodation options have the added benefit of an integrated woodburning stove to keep you cosy on those cooler evenings. This added warmth means that the glamping season can last longer, and you can spend even more time in the great outdoors. Choose from sleeping under cosy canvas with one of our tipis or bell tents with a wood burner or have a quirky adventure with a warm-as-toast stay in a Landpod.

We offer glamping accommodation in some of the UK’s holiday hotspots, from the fells of the Lake District to the coast of Cornwall, as well as locations off-the-beaten-track in the West Sussex and Hampshire countryside.

Read on to find out the benefits of glamping with a log burner and where you can find some of our best glamp sites in the UK.

Why choose glamping with a woodburning stove?

Two Landpods at YHA Windermere

There are so many reasons to choose a glamping stay with a woodburning stove. And of course, the most obvious one is the warmth! After a day of adventures in the great outdoors, there’s nothing better than coming home and stoking the fire to warm up. With the weather in the UK being, ahem, changeable, you may have got wet or cold during the day. But with the log burner roaring, you’ll warm up in no time. Hang up your wet clothes and get them drying out, too.

If you are one of those people who can’t start your day without a cuppa, you’re in luck because you can prepare one on your wood burner. Just bring your camping kettle to pop on the top of the stove, and you’ll have boiling water for a tea or coffee in no time.

Our glamping is also dog-friendly so why not bring your four-legged friend along with you? Dogs will love hours of long walkies in the fresh air before curling up by the fire in the evening. Bring your pup for just £5 per night. With all these great benefits, it’s more a question of why wouldn’t you choose glamping with a woodburning stove?

Whether you’re treating yourself to a solo break away, going away with a group of pals, or travelling with the kids, glamping accommodation with a log burning stove is the perfect way to stay.

How to light a woodburning stove

Using a woodburning stove in your tipi or bell tent is easy and it’s a lot of fun. With each stay, you get one free pack of wood, and you can buy more from reception as and when you need it.

To build the fire, simply arrange the kindling in the middle of the stove before adding the larger pieces of wood around it. Light the kindling, open the vents and shut the door – then stand back and watch the fire roar. You can even get the kids involved (from a distance, of course!) and teach them a new skill before taking it in turns to keep an eye on the fire.

Glamping with a woodburning stove in Cornwall

Four bell tents at YHA Penzance

Head to the South West for a gorgeous glamping stay with plenty to do on the doorstep. YHA Penzance is home to six bell tents with wood burners.

Each tent sleeps up to five people, making them great for family holidays. You can even book all six tents if you’re celebrating an occasion like a big birthday or just looking for somewhere for a large group holiday.

Set within beautiful gardens in a quiet part of the gorgeous town of Penzance, this Cornish hostel is close to the coast, making it a fantastic base for a beach break. Head to the nearby beaches at Praa Sands or Sennen Cove and sign up for some surf lessons. Enjoy catching some waves before heading back to warm up at your bell tent. If you prefer your adventures a little slower paced, there are some gorgeous scenic walking routes right from the door, or you can explore the seaside town of St Ives, with its independent shops, bars, and cafes.

Guests staying in the bell tents also have access to all of the hostel’s facilities, so you can grab a drink from the licensed bar and head to the lounge to chill out. The great thing about glamping at a hostel is the social atmosphere you’ll find here. You can chat to your fellow travellers or watch something on the shared TV. You may want to stay away from your screens while you’re on holiday, but if you need to, you can use the free Wi-Fi.

Log burner glamping in the Lake District

Inside a tipi

We have plenty of options for glamping in the Lake District with a log burner. If sleeping under canvas without the hassle of putting up your own tent appeals to you, then you can choose one of the bell tents at YHA Hawkshead. There are walking trails and cycle paths starting just outside the hostel so it’s the perfect base for an activity break in the Lakes. If mountain biking’s your thing, try Grizedale Forest for some of the country’s best routes.

Another canvas option is the festival-style tipis at YHA Hawkshead, YHA Coniston Holly How, YHA Windermere, and YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe.

Each tent can sleep up to four people on one double bed and two single beds, so they’re great for family holidays, a romantic getaway for two, or a group of pals on a hiking holiday. All bedding is included, so you can save space in the car and leave the sleeping bags at home. Of course, there’s no need to bring the tent either – all the hard work has been done for you.

There’s eco-friendly solar lighting inside the tipis so you can stay up chatting or reading after it goes dark, and, of course, the all-important wood burner to keep you warm. Tipis are perfect if you love the experience of camping but you don’t want to rough it.

For a completely different stay, why not try a Landpod? Half-tent, half-camping pod, Landpods are all set up for a wonderful glamping stay. YHA Windermere has the only Landpod in the UK with a log burner, so stay here for a truly unique break.

Premium Landpods are perfect for couples as they sleep two people. For a romantic getaway, you can snuggle up around the wood burner and chat or play games or head outside to the wooden companion seat with a couple of cushions and blankets and watch the world go by. The tent has an insulated canvas roof which you can raise up so you can keep cool during warm summer evenings and watch the stars together from your bed. Wake up early to the sounds of birdsong and the sunrise – pure bliss! There’s also an outdoor rug so you can enjoy picnics for two outside when the weather is fine. Bring a bottle of fizz, and you’ve got everything you need to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or even an engagement.

Cosy stays in the South East

Glamping area at YHA Truleigh Hill

For a stay away from the crowds, try a glamping stay in the beautiful countryside of the South East of England. You’ll find bell tents with wood burners in peaceful locations at YHA New Forest and YHA Truleigh Hill.

YHA New Forest is situated on the edge of the quaint Hampshire village of Burley. For a chilled family getaway, there are lots of walking routes straight from the hostel and nearby tearooms to pop into for a spot of lunch. Bring your camping kettle and boil some water on the wood burner for a yummy hot chocolate before bed – the perfect way to end the day after exploring the trails.

YHA Truleigh Hill is set in the South Downs National Park and is close to the beaches of Brighton, Shoreham, Hove, and Worthing. There is plenty to explore here, whether you prefer the coast or the countryside. The hostel is far away from busy roads, so when you get back, the kids can run around in the gardens with their new-found friends while you relax outside with a glass of wine and chat with the other parents.

Snuggle up in Wales

Pembrokeshire is one of the most beautiful areas of Wales and YHA Manorbier enjoys a great location near to the popular seaside town of Tenby. Wander around the harbour, jump on a boat to the nearby Caldey Island, or bring your buckets and spades to the beach.

The hostel is located on a cliff top with stunning views of the surrounding coastline. Straight from the hostel, you can jump on one of the coastal paths or head down to a sandy beach. That’s if you can bear to leave the hostel, of course. It’s recently been refurbished, so you’ll enjoy walking into the welcoming reception area and foyer or grabbing a bite to eat at the Skrinkle Café & Bar. Choose from light bites or hearty classics, and kids can eat for just £1 with our special offer.

When you’ve had your fill of fun and fresh air, head back to the hostel and build a fire in your bell tent before bedding down for the evening.
