From the moment the Youth Hostels Association was set up in Britain in 1930, it had a clear purpose: to help all, but especially young people, to a greater knowledge, use and love of the countryside, particularly by providing hostels or other accommodation for them on their travels.

More than 85 years later, this goal has remained at the core of everything we do. It’s why we’re so proud to be championing Learning Away’s #BrilliantResidentials campaign, encouraging more young people to experience our flexible, high-quality school trip residentials. School trips with an overnight stay can lead to meaningful, life-enhancing outcomes such as increased resilience, self-confidence, acquisition of new skills, better social relationships and educational achievements.

School trip residentials really can have a huge impact on young people, and an overnight stay with YHA has the potential to achieve so much more than a day trip. Being away from home encourages students to manage their own behaviour, to accommodate others and to manage conflicts and make decisions independently.
