YHA Castleton’s Losehill Hall refurbishment

The 40-year legacy of the historic Grade II-listed Losehill Hall, in Castleton, Derbyshire, is set to continue following the completion of an extensive £2 million 12-month refurbishment project on YHA Castleton Losehill Hall.

The Victorian Gothic mansion was previously owned and run by the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) as an education centre. YHA Castleton Losehill Hall was purchased by YHA early last year. YHA has now transformed the building, which re-opened its doors on 24th February 2012, into an environmental learning, residential and activity centre for young people and holiday-makers. YHA’s expertise in hostel management and scale of operation will ensure a better long-term future for YHA Castleton Losehill Hall and allow the PDNPA to focus on its education work.

“This great new Youth Hostel will offer fantastic facilities for young people to learn about the natural environment, culture and history of the Peak District,” said YHA Chairman Chris Darmon. “We are really proud that through a partnership with the PDNPA we have retained this excellent centre.”
In addition to the environmental learning and activity resources, Losehill Hall’s new status as a Youth Hostel means it also has 144 beds in 36 rooms, the majority of which have en suite bathrooms. With prices starting from as little as £18 per night, it is expected the accommodation and resources will be used by around 22,000 people each year.

YHA Castleton Losehill Hall stands in beautiful formal gardens and is surrounded by 27 acres of peaceful parkland with woods and streams. As well as running educational activities, YHA Castleton Losehill Hall offers a huge programme of outdoor and indoor activities for young people and families throughout the year.

YHA Castleton Losehill Hall replaces the nearby outdated Youth Hostel in Castleton village, which will now close. An official launch of the flagship Youth Hostel will take place on 1st May 2012 by Tim Loughton MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families.
