If you’re thinking of taking a beach holiday this spring – before the masses descend on the coastline during the summer – then the Gower Peninsula in South Wales is worth consideration.
Consumer travel site TripAdvisor has just named Rhossili Beach the best beach in the UK; not only that, it’s now considered to be the third best beach in Europe and tenth best in the world in the 2013 Travellers’ Choice Beach Awards. Considering the competition offered by beaches in the Mediterranean and further afield, it is quote the coup for South Wales.
David Phillips, Swansea Council’s leader, told the South Wales Evening Post said the council is not surpised with the results, but extremely pleased to be acknowledged in this way. “Images of Rhossili Bay, which is managed by the National Trust, are recognisable across the world and feature prominently in our destination marketing activity,” he said.
“We hope that many more visitors continue to enjoy its outstanding natural beauty.”
Emma Shaw of TripAdvisor added: “These awards recognise the best beaches in the UK and beyond, according to those that really matter – travellers who have visited these beaches and given them the highest levels of praise.”
