Do you have an adventurous spirit? Or would like to go searching for one? The UK is a great destination for a variety of challenging and fun activities. Let YHA help you find your next unforgettable getaway with our helpful guide to adventure activities in the UK.

Sky high

First on our ‘adventure activities in the UK’ list is Sky high. Get yourself to Cumbria’s Via Ferrata adventure. It’s a series of steel ladders and bridges that have been drilled into the rockface. The route follows that of Victorian miners, leading you to the summit of Fleetwith Pike. There are two options to choose from. Regular and ‘Xtreme’.  They aim to challenge and inspire in different ways. The first one is suitable to everyone over the age of 10.  The latter requires a brave attitude. Whichever adventure you choose, expect it to last for around 3 hours. For a comfortable stay in the local area, check out a host of affordable options from YHA.

Ride the waves

Did you know you can surf without leaving the UK? Take a trip to North Yorkshire for the opportunity to try out surfing. The vibe is friendly, even when the water gets busy, and it’s a great place to try out the activity and see if it’s for you. Staff at the Saltburn Surf School will be able to help with all beginner training, as well as kit so you don’t have to worry about anything but getting up on the board.

Up in the air

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to fly? Well, you can find out by traveling to Surrey and giving paragliding a go. No skills or experience are required if you book in for a tandem flight, letting a highly experienced instructor direct you through the open skies. Duration of a flight is always determined by weather conditions with safety being the main priority and on good days you’ll soar to 500ft above the Surrey countryside with green rolling hills beneath your feet.
